This is a project to keep your kids entertained. It is also a great way to practice hand eye coordination and motor skills. The materials that you are going to need are; construction paper and something to cut the paper with.Depending on the age of the child you can use 3 colors or more for older children and 2 colors for the younger children. Color choice is left up to what the child wants. To get started take a full size sheet of construction paper. Fold this paper in half length-wise. Take your scissors and about an inch down the paper on the fold side cut into the paper. Do not cut all the way through. Leave about half an inch or so from the end. Repeat these steps at inch intervals down the paper.Open up the paper and this will be the base of your weaving mat. Then with the other color(s) you cut out strips about an inch wide and cut length-wise. To make the cutting of these strips easier use a paper slicer. To start the weave you take a strip of paper and start with under the first cut flap on the mat that cut earlier. Then you alternate between over and under from there. The next strip well start opposite from the first strip. So, if you start with under the first flap with the first strip; then you would start under on this strip. You then repeat the over under through the mat.You repeat these steps until the mat is full. Alternating colors and starting positions. Then secure the loose edges with a glue stick. There you go you have a nice weaved mat.
